Search-engine optimisation (SEO) is not my favourite part of creating websites, and I just know it won’t be your favourite thing either. It’s time-consuming and labour-heavy, but it’s one of those things that needs to be done. In fact, it is essential if you want to leverage having a website, and a presence on the Internet. When it is done well, we bring clients and customers to our site and make sure they are the clients and customers we actually want.

If you have got some extra time, have nothing better to do, or you are procrastinating about doing something worse (like your tax), you could dive right in and do these free SEO for beginner courses. Then if you need help, talk to me afterwards. Alternatively, book a session with me and I’ll talk you through the basics, and/or get me to do some SEO (then you can do your tax, and I can procrastinate about doing mine.)

If You Were to Do Just One Thing…

SEO is tricky, and advice changes all the time, so it’s important to check back in on a regular basis to tweak your website, and find out the latest tips from the experts. If you just do one thing, I think the most important thing to do is to write unique, valuable content regularly. We want to establish expertise, authority, and trustworthiness, and this is a great way to do it. This way, we give Google et al some relevant content to index, and your potential clients and customers something interesting to read that may just be what they were looking for.

Set up Google My Business if you haven’t already (Okay, that’s two things) then you can also post your valuable content there, and on LinkedIn. Then get your happy customers to submit Google reviews. (That’s three things, but who’s counting!)
