At Smink Works, we believe great websites can fuel great ideas—and we recently had the privilege of helping RMIT University bring one of Australia’s most important research projects to life online. The Transdisciplinary Research into Engineering Management for Sustainability (TREMS) Hub is a national collaboration tackling Australia’s urgent waste crisis. The Hub brings together universities, industry leaders, and government bodies to find circular economy solutions for industries like construction, textiles, and plastic waste. Our role? To work on and launch their new website—a project that demanded WordPress and web design technical expertise, strategic thinking, and content management and editing.
The site, soon to be live at tremshub.com, showcases a large portfolio of engineering research projects, each addressing a different slice of Australia’s sustainability puzzle. Every project page needed to clearly communicate complex information—such as objectives, key researchers, progress summaries, partners, and opportunities—while remaining easy to navigate and read, as well as be engaging for industry stakeholders. Based on the template and design chosen by the TREMS Hub team, we organised the content into a flexible WordPress website, with a framework aligning projects with the Hub’s specific themes. The result is a modern and easy-to-navigate site that’s as scalable as it is user-friendly.
This wasn’t just another website build. It was a true collaboration with the RMIT TREMS Hub team, ensuring the platform would serve as a powerful tool for industry connections, grant applications, and public engagement, showcasing both the researchers and the powerful research projects that are making an impact when it comes to the environment.
Working on the TREMS Hub was also personally rewarding. It’s not every day that you get to help advance research that has the potential to reshape Australia’s future. Being involved in a project with such meaningful goals—reducing waste, closing resource loops, and inspiring change—reminded us of the bigger picture behind what we do at Smink Works. Our websites aren’t just about pixels and plugins; they’re about supporting bold visions.
